Former publisher of Penguin India, Chiki Sarkar, launched a publishing company called Juggernaut last week. It’s billed as a digital platform with a huge focus on the mobilephone – in addition to good old physical publishing. She’s launching it with Durga Raghunath, founder of digital newsroom, Firstpost and former chief executive of Web18.
Sarkar has raised about $2.3 million in what is the first round of fund-raising – fromInfosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani and William Bissell managing director of Fabindia, which sells natural, hand-made and traditional products. Sarkar also retains a stake, along with Neeraj Aggarwal, the managing director of Boston Consulting Group in India. Juggernaut will soon roll out an app! The first book release will be sometime in the February 2016 to April 2016 time-frame.
