A Note from the Publisher

Fisherman’ is one of our favourite stories because the character of the fisherman and what he does here is similar to the way in which Mahasweta Devi herself lived and worked. She would dive into the depths of all kinds of human experience – often painful and full of anguish and injustice – in order to wrest the truth. A truth she would then lay bare for everyone to see, dressed in nothing more than the loincloth of language.
